Busy, Busy, Busy!

Phew! its been a hectic week so far as I am working on a new commission and getting ready for the Hand Embroidery Network's first exhibition so fingers crossed that will be all online next week! I just wanted to say a quick thanks to Craft Gossip for featuring my free machine embroidery video on their blog! I only discovered it over the weekend under their tutorials-you-may-have-missed there are loads of other great tutorials you may want to check out as well! I never realised my video has had so many viewings in fact 1,855 views! I have been meaning to do some more and have had a request for a flower to be produced in free machine embroidery so if I get some time in the next week or two I will have a go at doing another one! Though I have to say I do prefer embroidered insects! A part from being busy with lots of stitching this week I will hopefully get the chance to check out Mr X Stitch Birthday Bonanza tomorrow as there is some cool prizes up for grabs. We are also having a big celebration in our household tomorrow as a small girl will be turning one!

Now on to Domestic Pest no.3 So far I have two large embroideries on Clothes Moths and Bedbugs, I will take some photographs of the completed pieces. I am also producing smaller pieces on this theme as I go along, two of which will be in the Hand Embroidery Network's exhibition which will be online on the 1st September fingers crossed!

This is the time I like to take to catch up on reading all the blogs that I love, one of them being Mr X Stitch as there is always something that makes me smile and giggle and go wow! Well I got a surprise this morning to see that my Arachnobroidery had been featured in Stitchgasm So just wanted to say a big thanks guys and keep up the good work as Mr X Stitch is definitely the number one contemporary embroidery and needlecraft blog on the planet and if your not reading it why not?

Don't let the bedbugs BITE!

I have been working on a large piece for my domestic pests series for the last few days. I am enjoying developing this piece as the bedbugs have started to take on little characters! I still have quite a bit of small text to add and some more eggs here and there before it is finished. I have completed another red bedbug today and added the black dots of the bedbug faeces with fabric paints. I have also been working on some smaller moth eaten pieces and I have been developing ideas for domestic pest no.3 which I will start work on soon. The vintage gloves are the next piece that I wanting to complete so I will do a separate blog posting for them in the next day or so.

Im off for Physiotherapy this afternoon on my ankles so I will take some sewing along for while Im waiting!

Red Bed Bug

I have been stitching bedbugs today in brown, red and beige. This guy above is my favourite! Bedbugs are rusty brown normally, red when they have eaten blood and beige when they shed their skins. The red bug above is part of a big piece I am currently working on which is a part of my Domestic Pest series. More images to follow.

Bronte Parsonage Finished

Its been a busy few days finishing off several small projects I had on the go, including my Victorian inspired tinted postcard of Bronte Parsonage that I blogged about awhile back. I am really pleased with this one and have loved working on it especially all the French knots! I added a little text to the centre grave stones which reads Heathcliff and Cathy rip. Wuthering Heights being one of my favourite books! I think I will have to have a trip over to Haworth soon and take some more photographs of the village and the surrounding landscape which was the inspiration for the Bronte sisters books. I really enjoy making the postcards as it is a great way of combining my love of photography and embroidery.

Gloves work in progress.

I haven't blogged for a couple of days as I have been busy working on my Domestic Pest series and finishing off some of my Victorian inspired postcards, some of which are now available for sale on my etsy shop. I have lots of work in progress at the moment and I am really enjoying my current themes. I couldn't resist over the weekend popping into Echoes a vintage shop just on the way out of Todmorden which is closing down in the next few weeks, to check out some of the gorgeous vintage clothing and accessories. While I was in there I spotted some wonderful long cream kid leather gloves and thought how cool to embroider into these! So they are now under way and the above shots are before I started stitching into them. I will post some more pictures soon of my progress and the other pieces I am currently working on. Im off to see if I can find one of my favourite films called Blithe Spirit on YouTube. I used to watch it with my grandmother Amelia everytime it was on the telly! I always wonder what my grandmother would say about all my embroideries if she was alive today. I miss being able to talk to her, she always used to say to me 'you can turn your hand to anything' this was always after I had shown her some craft project I had been working on!

Just found this picture of 'Madame Arcati' the medium in the film version of Blithe Spirit, my grandmother thought she was so funny! (Hope the website I found the image on won't mind)
